A dying industry?

By xaby | June 6, 2007

By my own estimate, tracking of Singapore Web Design companies via third party online resources, 50% of new web design companies fail and fold up within the first 18 months. And at the same time around at least 20 new entrants will join the industry every 6 months.

This line is really competitive, cut throat pricing (not to mention free pitches by new companies) and web design is somewhat a commoditized product/service.

However in my personal opinion, competition is everywhere, my greatest fear is what if one day, one of those titans launches a FREE service which could serve as a perfect (or near perfect alternative) to our offerings? This could easily wipe many players off the playing grounds. Already, there are signs of such development on the Internet (check out Google’s Page Creator)  and this article by Netcraft.
